Karina Gutierrez-Martinez v. Oscar Aguirre

On September 16, 2018 massive thunderstorms swept over Connecticut, knocking out power to thousands of homes including the Plaintiffs in Bridgeport. The Plaintiff, a 30 year old woman, went into her basement looking for candles and found what she believed to be a homemade candle. The candle turned out to be an explosive device that went off in her hands. The explosion caused serious injuries to her hands, chest, neck and face. The Plaintiff’s husband and small child witnessed the explosion and the immediate aftermath, suffering severe emotional trauma. The FBI and the Connecticut Bomb Squad were called in to secure the house and removed and detonated a second explosive device after the surrounded houses had been evacuated. This case is still on-going.
